Microneedling is a non-invasive fractional technology. it uses a device to deliver tiny punctures in the skin using micro-fine needles (from 0.5 to 2 millimeters in diameter). This triggers the body’s wound healing process, stimulating collagen and elastin production. Additionally, once punctures are made, products applied topically (such as hyaluronic acid and vitamin C) are able to penetrate deeper into the skin in order to work more effectively. The microneedling process targets a fraction of the skin at a time. This may be compared to viewing an image or photograph pixel by pixel.

Until microneedling, there were two options for treating certain types of damaged skin; ablative and non-ablative. Ablative treatments primarily target the surface skin cells (the epidermis) and non-ablative treatments target the mid-layer of the skin (the dermal collagen).

Microneedling treatments have changed the game, as they work on both layers of the skin.
